Why not take a role today?

London 's communities need your help in the run up to, and beyond the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Could you help volunteer doing any of the following activities?

  • One-off events

  • Improving the environment

  • Medical Support

  • Customer service

  • Organising sport

  • Transporting people or things

  • Interpreting

  • Public relations

  • Supporting people with disabilities

  • Leading a team of volunteers

There are many similar roles you could try out now to improve your skills and experience ahead of 2012.

Carrying out a role now will improve your skills and experience and may increase your chances of carrying out other voluntary and paid work. It will not guarantee you a role as a volunteer at the 2012 Games.

Volunteer at the 2012 Games and the Cultural Olympiad

In August 2008 the Olympics were handed over from Beijing to London. Around 70,000 volunteers will be recruited for the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The Cultural Olympiad of arts and cultural events will also need volunteers from August 2008 to 2012.

After the Games itself volunteers will be needed to improve the environment and create new habitats for wildlife.

London 2012 has already registered well over 100,000 potential volunteers. Recruitment will start in 2010.

Preparing for 2012

If you would like to volunteer at the 2012 Games, or if you'd simply like to keep up-to-date register with London 2012 directly here.

Registering with London 2012 will not guarantee that you will be a volunteer at the Games.

You can try out volunteering roles at events or in the community now to gain new skills and experience before 2012. It's a good way to support your community and use your enthusiasm to inspire and support others. For instance, if you're over 16 and keen to find out more, your Volunteer Centre may refer you to training for over 16s to be a sports official in the run up to 2012.

Have a great time!

What ever you choose to do, we hope you find your volunteering an enjoyable and rewarding experience.
